At the age of 24, Valentin Ferron will be taking part in his third Liège-Bastogne-Liège race this Sunday. He takes the opportunity to reflect on his excellent start to the season and his current form.
A day in the breakaway at La Flèche Wallonne.
“The goal was to have a racer in the breakaway. It was an exhausting day with numerous successive climbs. In a race like La Flèche Wallonne, the breakaway has little chance of success, but we owe it to ourselves to believe in it. I really enjoyed being at the front of the race. Being in the break on the last circuit with the Mur de Huy was something quite special. The atmosphere was amazing”
A constantly developing racer
“Since I joined the team I’ve gradually been making progress at my own pace. I play an increasingly active role in the races, which sometimes allows me to go for a win. What I need, as shown in the latest races, is a bit of success. But that’s sport, it doesn’t always smile on you.”
A well-oiled team since the start of the season
“The arrival of experienced racers has been hugely positive for the team. They have unstintingly offered the younger team members the benefit of their experience. We’ve performed well from the start of the season. It’s taken everyone to the next level. Speaking for myself, I’ve got momentum going at the moment and I hope to keep it up.”
Liège-Bastogne-Liège, a Monument race
“The Ardennes Classics week is one of my favorite times of the season. Liège-Bastogne-Liège is legendary and inspires all racing cyclists. Alexis will be our leader on Sunday. We’re going to do everything we can to put him in a position to achieve an excellent result. I hope to do as much as possible in the race to help him.”
The lure of the Tour de France
“Taking part in the Tour de France is one of my goals, but first and foremost I’m concentrating on the upcoming races.”
