The Team TotalEnergies is proud to announce the signing of Alexys Brunel for the next season. A talented and versatile rider with a well-established track record who left the professional peloton, Alexys Brunel is making his comeback within the Team TotalEnergies, which is delighted to support him in this challenge.
Coming back into the professional peloton, a real challenge
Renowned for his qualities as a rouleur, the former European junior time trial champion is returning to the top level with plenty of ambition. The 25-year-old rider made a name for himself on his professional debut, including a landmark victory on a stage of the Etoile de Bessèges in 2020. His versatility and ability to slip into breakaways enabled him to make his mark.
In 2024, he chose to leave the World Tour peloton, and even leave the peloton altogether, turning to the amateur world first, before turning to triathlon and then gravel in 2024. Building on this adventure outside the usual paths, Alexys is now returning to road racing, motivated to take on new challenges as part of Team TotalEnergies. He is now ready to return to the professional circuit for a new season full of challenges.
Alexys Brunel’s first words:
‘I’m delighted to be back in the professional peloton, especially with a major French team like Team TotalEnergies. After my experience in gravel, I’ve rediscovered the desire to return to road racing. I’m well aware of the opportunity and the ‘second chance’ I’ve been given. Becoming a professional is hard, staying professional is another story. I’m very grateful to the whole team and particularly to the sports management. It’s a team that embodies offensiveness and team spirit, two values that motivate me. It’s a conscious choice, because after a period away from the professional world, without ever staying away from the bike, I’ve rediscovered the passion and pleasure of the top level in recent years. I can’t wait to get back to the big races and give it my all this season, and for the leaders too. A big thank you to Jean-René Bernaudeau, Benoît Genauzeau and the team for their confidence. I can’t wait to take on this new challenge!’
A challenge not only for Alexys, but also for the Team, as Benoit Genauzeau explains:
‘Alexys has a special history with top-level racing. Having started talking to him this summer, we immediately got on very well on the team’s project and his project, with the same desires and the same values. Alexys is a thoughtful and committed person, he’s not finished with professional cycling and we believe in his potential. We’re convinced that his determination and experience will be invaluable assets as he integrates perfectly into the group. It’s a strong choice that we’ve taken on board, and one that reinforces a recruitment programme that’s full of promise and that’s very much in our own spirit.’
Welcome home Alexys!
