Recruitment is over for Team TotalEnergies! The Vendée formation, which recently extended Niki Terpstra’s contract and was joined by Juraj Sagan, will consist of 26 racing cyclists in 2022. Benoit Genauzeau, Sports Director, tells us about his ambitions for the team.
A team that has everything it takes to shine at the Classics.
“We’re going to have a well-balanced group in 2022, which must step up to the plate for the different races. The Classic races will obviously have a remarkable strike force with Peter Sagan and Anthony Turgis. Our leaders are lucky to be supported by some outstanding team-mates.”
But that’s not all…
“After our traditional annual assessment, we’ve laid the foundations for next season with our racing cyclists. Niccolò Bonifazio has a big challenge ahead of him with the sprints. And Pierre Latour will be keenly awaited in the stage races.”
An ambitious up-and-coming team
“We have great ambitions for our eager young cyclists from Vendée U. It’s time for Mathieu Burgaudeau, Valentin Ferron and Fabien Grellier to come to the forefront. In late 2021 they proved that we can well and truly count on them. What’s more, we intend to start next season with the same dynamic, with Sandy Dujardin and Alan Jousseaume who have both just signed their first professional contracts.”
Two sessions to get ready
“First of all, the whole team is going to stay at Calpe from December 7 to 17 to build the foundations of our next season. We were unfortunately not able to do that last year. Covid-19 forced us to cancel the first gathering. After that we will meet up again from January 11 to 21 for a second working session before racing starts again.”
Roll on 2022…
