After coming in ninth at the Puy de Dôme on Sunday, Mathieu Burgaudeau turned in another outstanding performance in the Tour, with a well-deserved podium finish after a gripping stage!

Today’s stage was always going to be one for the baroudeurs, and plenty started looking for the break from the off. Despite a fierce battle, nobody was really managing to get away from the peloton. Finally, after a relentless struggle, a complete breakaway formed after over 90km. The group included the heavyweights of the sport: Van der Poel, Benoot, Pinot, Martin, I.Izagirre, Jorgenson and Johannessen, to name just a few. Alongside these A-listers, Mathieu Burgaudeau showed real mettle, throwing everything into the fight to earn a great result. It was Ion Izagirre who managed to outpace the group with 31km to go, while our man Mathieu Burgaudeau found the strength to fight for a brilliant sprint to claim second place.
