French revelation on the 2023 Tour de France, Mathieu Burgaudeau, from Noirmoutier and a pure product of the Vendée U, has extended his contract for a further two years.
Mathieu “the tough one”
This season has been something of a revelation for our young rider, who put in a very fine Tour de France with two podiums, and who recently made a name for himself with a creditable second place in the Grand Prix de Plouay.
A pure product of the Vendée U, Mathieu now stands out for his real strength of character and his resistance to effort, which is leading him to take on a whole new dimension within the team. This two-season extension is the logical result of his hard work.
In the words of Benoît Genauzeau, our Director of Sport…
“Over and above his sporting achievements, Mathieu embodies the success of our organisation. Having been through the CREF, the Vendée U and now the professional team, it’s a real satisfaction to see him take such an important role in the project.”
“Mathieu has established himself as one of the world’s top cyclists, and he’s also one of the French revelations of the 2023 Tour de France. We’re determined to make him a leader, and he’s earned that reputation both on the field and internally. We emphasise his consistency and look forward to continuing to work together.”
Mathieu has his say…
Mathieu, what is your reaction to this extension?
“I’m delighted to be continuing the adventure with the team for another two years. The project to develop performance at different levels of the team and Jean-René Bernaudeau’s focus on youth have convinced me.”
On his goals:
“The [personal] objective will be to continue to progress and win races. As far as the collective goal is concerned, it’s the same as my personal goals. The team must continue to grow, to improve and to win races.
Do you have any special words for the team?
“I’d like to thank the whole team (riders, assistants, mechanics, coaches, team managers and the various members of the office) for their confidence and commitment.
The TotalEnergies team is therefore renewing its confidence in Mathieu Burgaudeau for the next two seasons. We wish our rider every success.
