Barcelona is usually synonymous with Formula 1 when it comes to speed. Today, however, there were no engines—just pure leg power—as the opening team time trial unfolded between La Rambla and Park Güell.
A discipline designed for specialists, where every rider had a crucial role to play in ensuring their team leader reached the final climb to Montjuïc in the best possible position.
For Team TotalEnergies, it was Jordan Jegat who had the responsibility of bringing the team’s effort to the finish. The Breton rider first benefited from the work of the team’s powerful rouleurs on the flatter opening section, where Thibault Guernalec and Anthony Turgis put their experience to good use. Then, on the climb towards the Olympic Stadium, the climbers took over to guide Jordan all the way to the line.
The clock stopped at 22:49, averaging 51.5 km/h. A performance that even saw Team TotalEnergies occupy the hot seat for a few moments.
As the remaining teams crossed the finish line, the value of that time became increasingly evident. Up against the strongest squads in the peloton, Team TotalEnergies held its own to secure a solid 15th place on the opening stage.
It was a well-earned reward for the entire squad, whose meticulous preparation—including a reconnaissance of the iconic Barcelona circuit in the days leading up to the Grand Départ—paid off.
The first challenge is complete, and the Tour de France 2026 is officially underway for Team TotalEnergies.
