Preparing on two fronts for 2024 between Spain and Rwanda.

With the start of the season fast approaching, Team TotalEnergies is preparing for a new year on the world’s various fronts. To do this, the Team has chosen a physical preparation programme that combines the advantages of Spanish terrain with the altitude of Rwanda.

The winding roads of the Spanish hills offer riders a diverse terrain in which to hone their technique and build up their endurance. The state-of-the-art infrastructure, steep climbs and technical descents are all challenges that prepare our riders for the competition.

Benoit Genauzeau (Director of Sport):

“Our first 10 days of training in Spain took place in perfect conditions. This enabled us to lay the foundations for our next season. We were able to work on all the physical aspects so that we can tackle the upcoming events with all the riders, as well as building cohesion and forging links between riders and staff. We were also able to take some time to present the new features of 2024, in particular the new performance areas. It was a positive first collective session. For January, we have something new to prepare and we’ll be taking the time to look at it carefully at the start of the year.”

However, the team is not content with Iberian roads. They have broadened their horizons to the green hills of Rwanda, adding a unique dimension to their preparation. The altitude, combined with the striking beauty of the landscape, creates an environment that challenges the group both physically and mentally.

Maxime Robin (Performance Director):

“For the last four years, we’ve held a training camp at altitude in May, in preparation for the Tour de France. It’s always a good way to get together. So we thought it would be good to do the same thing for the start of the season. The aim is to optimise the riders’ performance for the start of the season. Over there [in Rwanda] it’s between 20 and 30 degrees, we eat organic food and there’s a training centre at an altitude of 2,000 m, which are optimal conditions for part of the group and for the early-season deadlines.”

Training sessions in Spain and Rwanda are carefully synchronised to make the most of each environment, creating a holistic training programme.

This unique approach demonstrates Team TotalEnergies’ commitment to excellence. By combining the advantages of two continents, our team is pushing the boundaries of physical preparation, showing that cycling is a sport that transcends geographical boundaries.
