The first mountain stage of this Tour de France 2023, and not the least: the Pyrenees.
Stage 5 started in Pau on Wednesday, culminating in Laruns, but before reaching the finish line, the riders had to tackle 162.7 kilometers including three cols, including the famous Col de Marie Blanque.
Pierre Latour and Mathieu Burgaudeau kick off a combative day
Pierre Latour launched the hostilities right from the start, riding solo for some 30 kilometers before being caught by the whole peloton. Not sparing with his efforts, he launched several attacks during the day. A great battle.
It was then the turn of his compatriot, the young Mathieu Burgaudeau, to take on his responsibilities and follow the leading group, trying to make a few relaunches on the final pass of the day.
Ranking point
In the overall classification, Steff Cras remains in the TOP 20 with a 19th place, while Mathieu Burgaudeau takes 3 places in the best young rider classification and is now 7 points behind Tadej Pogacar.
